Course Description:
Art I is an introduction to the visual arts for students of all skill levels. Emphasis will be placed on the Elements of Art with an introduction to the Principles of Design. Students will create, produce, and evaluate art in this course. We will be working in 2D with traditional media to develop basic drawing and painting techniques.

You may also call the school and leave a message for me and I will return the call during my planning period or after school. Procedures/general info-
Phones may be used for class purposes only- you may also listen to music during work days when I am not doing demos/presenting information. If you text, call, snapchat, take a selfie, or do anything that isn’t project related I will take your phone from you. If it happens more than once you will not get it after class, you will have to get it back from Mr. Richards.
-no food or drink in the art room
-Standards from Student Code of Conduct and Attendance apply to art room as well
-Students should be in their assigned seat and ready to work when the bell rings. You are tardy if you enter the room after the bell.
-The teacher will dismiss class (not the bell) all students must be seated and clean up must be complete before students can be dismissed.
- Please use the restroom between classes
- Students cannot leave class without permission
2- Student may be asked to work alone and will be taken aside to discuss issue with teacher

All class II offenses will be referred immediately to the office without step procedures (see Code of Conduct manual for list of offenses)

Materials and Fees:
- Pencil (not mechanical), eraser, folder with pockets and brads, notebook paper or a notebook
- Students are required to pay a $35 fee
- The art fee will cover all other supplies needed for the duration of this course.
- General- points will be given for daily assignments, quizzes, exams and long term projects. Projects will be graded based on how well the project meets the objectives of the lesson and the amount of effort that is applied. Art projects will be graded on an individual basis due to the fact that students have varying degrees of technical ability and exposure to the arts. Students will be made aware of the grading criteria for each project when it is given and rubrics will be posted for the duration of each project.

- Late work – students can turn in art work late due to excused absences for no penalty. Due dates will be extended one day for each day the student was absent. If the absence is not excused, points will be deducted for every day that the project is late. If a student misses class it is their responsibility to talk to the teacher or another student to determine what work was missed.
